Sun Microsystems IT Lab at SEUA

According to a press release by the Ministry of Economy:

Sun Microsystems will open an IT laboratory at the State Engineering University of Armenia (SEUA-Polytechnic) according to an agreement signed on 14 July 2008 between SEUA Rector Mr. Marukhian and the Chairman of the Enterprise Incubator Foundation Mr. Yeritsian who is also Minister of Economy.

The laboratory will:
1. Strive to improve the quality of IT education at SEUA
2. Offer Sun Certificate programs
3. Furnsih up-to-date equipment to SEUA
4. Train and re-train both faculty and students

The 5-year project is part of Sun Microsystems’ overall strategy to create, with the assistance of the Ministry of Economy, educational and research centres in Armenia. The Minister of Economy said; “We have already gained extensive experience in business-university partnerships thanks to the government policy”.

Rector Marukhian said experts from other educational institutions, including from abroad, will be associated with the Sun lab to ensure European standards are maintained.

The Minister of Education was also present.
