Conference Examines the Role of Armenians in the Arab Economy


According to Armenpress news agency, the 3rd international conference on ‘The Role of Armenians in the Economy of Arab World’ was held 29-30 March 2010, at the Armenian Research Center of Cairo University under the auspices of Prof. Hossam Kamel, President of Cairo University.

An official from the press department of Armenian Foreign Affairs Ministry told Armenpress that Mr. Armen Melkonian, Armenia’s Ambassador to Egypt and Ms. Zeynab Abu-Sinna, Director of the Armenian Research Center, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of the Center in developing scientific, educational and cultural ties between Armenia and the Arab world.

Over 20 scientists from Armenia, Syria, Lebanon and the USA took part in the conference and presented reports on the Armenian-Arab relations and economic cooperation during various periods of history. The speakers tried to emphasize the importance of the role that Armenians have played in developing the trade and economy of the Middle East.

The Center is due to publish the conference proceedings in the near future.
